Sub-Saharan Africa
My relatives and friends will attest to the fact that Sub-Saharan Africa is one of my obsessions. Geographically, Sub-Saharan Africa is defined are the part of the continent which lies south of the Sahel Belt. My parents lived and volunteered in Zambia during the 1970s and they took me on my first African adventure, to South Africa, when I was aged 10. I have since become fascinated by many aspects of Africa but especially the wildlife, cultures, geography and politics. My first few trips to the area were with my parents and we enjoyed a relaxed pace and a few luxuries. I have since re-visited many of these countries whilst back-packing on my own or with friends.
These photographs were taken between the years 2004 and 2010. I have often found it difficult to do justice to the huge vistas and raw nature of this area but I hope that I have captured these essential elements in the images.
