It is a large bird of prey that feeds almost exclusively on fish. They spot prey whilst flying at height over a body of water before they drop down and force their talons beneath the surface to catch the prey. The ospreys in Australia are a resident sub-species, unlike the mainly migratory sub-species found in Europe, the Americas and Africa.
\r\n
\r\nI was surprised at how common ospreys appeared to be in Australia. Without much effort we were seeing about one pair of these beautiful birds a week along the coastline from Perth to Broome. Usually we saw the birds attending to nests built on isolated, rocky outcrops or on top of lighthouses. This osprey was photographed at Quobba Blowholes in front of the most stunning sunrise that I saw while in Australia.","photographer":"","width":600,"id":2931426,"height":400,"takendate":"","payment_groups_id":"","server_id":32,"link":"#","src":"Osprey-sunrise-Quobba-for-w.jpg","home":0,"purchase_instruction":"","galleries_id":"","gallery":1});
